Eaglets defender Friday Njengo is Dead.

Golden Eaglets defender Friday Njengo has passed on after more than nine months in hospital bed following a road accident which took place on February 3rd.

The accident, which occurred at the Dan Anacha Village in Taraba State as the players travelled from Jalingo to Calabar via a commercial bus, took place at a time the player, alongside teammate Adamu Abubakar were embarking on a journey for the first phase of the camping for the African Championship.

Njengo, was a regular member of the Manu Garba-led team during the qualifying series for the 2013 CAN U-17 Championship.

One Killed, Seven Injured In Expressway Accident

Newsmen learnt that one passengers was killed, while seven others sustained burns, eyewitnesses alleged that the accident was caused by a truck laden with noodles.

An eyewitness, Thomas Adelakun, said, “Trucks usually park on the side of the road. Around 5.45pm, one of the trucks was attempting to negotiate into the expressway but did not observe oncoming traffic.

“A passenger bus and a mini-truck laden with margarine, both on top speed, were driving by when the truck swerved in their direction. In a bid to avoid the truck, the bus swerved and  ran into the mini truck.

There was drama at the Palmgrove Bus Stop, Ikorodu Road, Lagos State, on Monday when a commercial bus driver stripped n*ked to avoid being arrested by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The LASTMA officials had blocked five different commercial buses for indiscriminately taking passengers by the side of the road.

Passengers in the four vehicles were asked to alight, as officials of the traffic agency took over the wheels of the impounded vehicles.

ASUU Didn’t Go On Strike Because Of Salaries – National Wages And Salaries Commission

Chairman, National Wages And Salaries Commission, Dr. Richard Egbule, has said the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU did not go on strike because of salaries, because the commission handled the issue of salaries well.

Egbule said this when Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters visited the commission on its oversight tour of the commission.

He also exonerated the commission from the agreement reached between the Federal Government and ASUU.

Nigeria Banks To Shutdown Nationwide

A major crisis looms in the financial sector, as all banks in the country may shut their doors to customers anytime this week, as their chief executive officers (CEOs) move to protest the continued detention of their staff by the Department of State Security (DSS).

Daily Sun gathered that the CEOs are irked by the arrest and detention of several key officials of no fewer than 13 banks over the last two weeks by security operatives, saying that this has not only crippled their operations but also poses a great risk if normal banking operations continues.

INEC Declares Anambra State Governorship Election Inconclusive

 
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Anambra Governorship election that held on Saturday November 16th inconclusive.

The commission declared the election inconclusive due to the significant number of votes it voided during counting. It said the total number of votes cancelled is much more than the difference between the candidate with the highest number of votes and the runner up.

The results declared by the commission showed that Chief Willie Obiano of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 174, 710; Comrade Tony Nwoye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 94, 354, while Senator Chris Ngige of the All Progressive Congress (APC) polled 92, 300 votes.

Jude Okoye was not at his brother, Peter Okoye's wedding yesterday

I just spoke with P-Square's publicity, Bayo Adetu, and he confirmed that Jude Okoye was not at Peter and Lola's wedding yesterday. I asked why he didn't attend and Mr Adetu said Jude and some members of P-Square's band were stuck in Ghana after their Saturday night show. He said Peter and Paul were able to make the trip back on Sunday morning but not Jude. That's the official reason but erm, I don't know if I believe it. 1, they traveled by private jet so...how can you get stuck? 2, people have been writing to me that the music exec was spotted at different locations in Lagos yesterday, and 3, Jude posted a pic of himself and Wizkid at Don Jazzy's Mavin studio on instagram yesterday and never made mention of the wedding. Really weird! Hopefully there's good reason for his missing his own brother's wedding.

And like I said yesterday, Paul was at the wedding! He just didn't participate in many pic taking.

Boko Haram bomber jailed for life for bombing Thisday, The Sun

Boko Haram member, Mustapha Umar, was today November 15th sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for his involvement in the April 26, 2012 bombing of SOJ Plaza in Kaduna where Thisday, The Sun and The Moment newspapers have their bureaus.
Umar was convicted on one count of terrorism for the bombing. The terrorist drove a white Honda Academy car with registration number AL 306 MKA with improvised explosives devices into the premises of SOJ plaza in April last year and detonated it, killing 3 people and injuring several others.

IYAYI: ASUU Suspends NEC Meeting Indefinitely

Thousands of students who had kept vigil, waiting for the outcome of ASUU NEC meeting, therefore went home disappointed following the announcement of the suspension of the meeting.

The accident which involved the convoy of Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State on Lokoja-Abuja Road also left two other officials of ASUU – Dr. Ngozi Ilo, National Welfare Officer, University of Benin, UNIBEN; branch chairman, Dr. Anthony Emina, and their driver, critically injured.

President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, who announced the suspension of the NEC meeting in Kano, explained that the union had to suspend the meeting following the sudden and tragic death of Professor Festus Iyayi.

Reps Summon SGF, AG, Others Over Alleged N13bn Scam

House Committee on Public Accounts, yesterday, summoned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adokie, Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Lands and Housing, as well as members of the former and current technical boards over alleged N13 billion scam in Federal Housing Authority.

The committee also fixed 27-29 of this month for an investigative hearing on the various roles of those alleged to have disbursed the funds.
